Tried & tested: Green People Moisturising Conditioner

Green People recently launched a new moisturising conditioner formulated to detangle and hydrate hair; we decided to give it a whirl and this is what we thought…

First of all we have to admit there is a little feeling of do-goodness and a slight smugness at Fashion Victim UK when we opt for eco-friendly products. Whilst some people have been doing the green thing for donkey’s years, we like our little luxuries and have been disappointed in the past by products that just don’t cut the mustard.

Thankfully increased knowledge and innovation has resulted in many new eco-products being brought onto the market that actually do what they say on the tin. We’re pleased to say that this is the case with the new Green People conditioner.

Considering the conditioner is organic and made without parabens, phthalates or artificial fragrances to we were surprised at the lasting smell of Neroli and Marshmallow and the immediate results on application.

The conditioner is also quite light which is good for those with dry hair as it means you can apply it all over without worrying about hair being weighed down or looking limp. A great every-day conditioner for those feeling a little considerate.

The eagerly anticipated ‘beauties for a cause’ international eco-inspired beauty competition, sponsored by Club4Climate the UK’s first ecological night club is a modern take on the traditional beauty contest as it adds an environmental awareness twist.

With growing fears of climate change and global warming, Miss Earth is the beauty pageant for the new millennium. There is a practical message behind this reinvented concept of a beauty contest in which contestants must have a strong knowledge of their country’s culture and environment in order to fulfil the ideals of this competition – that beauty queens be strong and effective advocates for Mother Earth.

The eco –friendly Grand Final is certainly a date not to be missed and is set to be a truly spectacular evening. A total of 65 green goddesses from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will compete at the prestigious event representing their home town dazzling the audience and judging panel over 3 rounds to include Vintage green cocktail dress, hand made recycled designer outfit made from recycled material, bottles tops, plastic bags, bin liners, newspapers, magazines, sweet packets, used materials etc…and the tradition long evening gown to be awarded the prestigious titles of Miss Air, Miss Fire, Miss Water equivalent of 2nd, 3rd and 4th placing with Miss Earth being the top award to the winner from each country.

After the eco-beauty to represent England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland has been crowned they will head to one of the biggest international beauty competition’s Miss Earth. During their month in the Philippines the Miss Earth delegates are required to attend various environmental seminars and educate people on the three R’s (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle). A little Boutiko of ethical delights

This week sees the relaunch of online ethical gift store Boutiko, unveiling a brand new look and improved website functionality, as well as a wider range of beautiful, unusual and ethically produced items for women and their homes.

Everything on the website is sourced with sustainability in mind, so whether a product is fairly traded, made from recycled materials or grown organically, you can be sure that it has been chosen consciously for your own guilt-free shopping pleasure.

We were particularly drawn to the company’s vintage teacup candles, available in either plain white or with a dainty floral pattern.

You snooze, you lose

We know the A/W09 threads have been making their way into the shops for some time now, but if we’d have known the best bits were going to get snapped up so quickly, we might have been a bit more forthcoming in stocking up our winter wardrobes. Schoolgirl error!

To illustrate what I’m getting at here, take a look at this gorgeous punk-rock, Swarovski crystal encrusted, knuckle-duster clutch bag – Alexander McQueen £795 from Net-a-Porter:

Isn’t it amazing? I want to say it’s practical and pretty, but I’m not that kind of girl. Nevertheless, I love it and I want it, unfortunately however I wasn’t very quick off the mark and it has already sold out. It’s not even September yet for heaven’s sake.

A word of advice? If you see something, you want it, don’t hang around! Do what you can to go get it, before it’s gone. Unlike in life, if the shoe / bag / dress doesn’t fit, at least you can take it back.
